End

Today was our last day!! Everyone did really good for the presentations...We went out to Applebee's with the astronomy people for lunch then I was done with work!!!

T-Minus 2

Today was the second to last day of the internship...I'm kinda nervous for the presentations tomorrow but I'm sure I'll do okay. So last day of work...tomorrow doesn't really count. I'm getting excited to actually be able to hang out with my friends while the sun is still up.

Have You Ever Seen A Door Before?

Today I sent Joe Pow my presentation which I cleaned up but still need to edit it. I met with Jake to establish a working schedule. So today is almost over and I have a lot of stuff to do at home...so my mind isn't all here lol.

Presenetation?

Today I worked on my presentations for Friday and refined it...At 2 we practiced our presentations in front of Jake and the whole insight lab. I was fun and I was able to get a few pointers...3 more days and we are done...not that I'm happy *wink* but seriously things are wrapping up so there is less and less to do each day.

Fun...Clean...Fun!!!

Today I showed Dr. Robinson the graphs I created using the new program. I met Dr. Axon who is a very amiable guy. So I was then instructed to show the sigma versus the slope to see if the optimum slope. We also had a lot of fun in the PC lab with the other interns.

Late Much...?

So today/Friday...(Since this blog is really late) I started struggling with MatLab by myself. I was doing pretty well and Liz was helping me with the thinking part. I was attempting to do a moving average that would compare the average of 10 with the next point. I went to get Paul to ask him to troubleshoot the program...he did the same thing in about 2 minutes...So we talked about what I could do to eliminate the spectral lines and we produced the graphs. So all in all I learned a lot...oh and I also helped Katie Montenaro with her scanner problem which wasn't much of a problem but more of just working the scanner.

Storm=Numel(Stom)

Today I spent the day exploring MatLab a bit. Paul was not here today so I had to fend for myself...I fiddled around with RANSAC to see if it could prove more useful. At 1 I went to the galaxy lunch which was very interesting. It was about binary black holes and had a lot of very good visuals. After lunch I worked on MatLab a while long and learned a good chunk of information.

Sunshine and Sno-Caps...?

Today I figured out that in MatLab I had plotted the linear data again *sign*. So I tried to fix the data to make it log and I messed up some stuff but luckily Paul was close by to aid. We spent a total of nearly 4 hours working on making RANSAC more robust...and it finally worked!!! So I went up for a meeting at 5:03...well Jake was there...no one else was. A few people had gone to Darien Lake for the day and Emma was gone. So I went and visited with Dr. Robinson to show him my lovely graphs...they didn't pass so it turns out that he wants me to try to weight the lines instead for a more accurate trend line. So back to the drawing board...I think I can get RANSAC to work or at least improve my results so that is what I'm going to start with tomorrow...I'm determined that these long hours of labor will not be in vain.

Did Someone Say Uno!?

Today I started by refining some of my presentation and making it look all nice like. I went out to lunch with Beth, the Katies, Duygu, and Ali. At lunch we decided to play Uno which ended up being very intense and long. I would have won almost 3 times but they decided to cheat and just be generally mean. After lunch I went to tackle RANSAC which proved to be very challenging. First Paul and I went to the Mac lab but MatLab wouldn't work on the Mac so we went over to the PC's but we encountered problems there too. So all in all I spent 3 hours in a freezing cold room staring at a computer screen...we finally got RANSAC to work after actually reading the lines of code...go figure that would make sense. So now I have a nicely colored graph to show Dr. Robinson tomorrow.

Sean Meet MatLab, MatLab Sean

Today, gosh first day back from my 7 days off. It was a productive day and very educational one at that. I started by working on my presentation for the end of the internship here. I made a total of 9 slides and have somewhat formulated what I am going to say about each one. We did not go to Java's today which was disappointing but I had a snack anyways. I went out to lunch with Chris, Teddy, and Ryan, in which we went to Cross Roads. I had peanut butter straight from the jar...mmmmmmm! I then stopped my Paul's 'office' to get some help on the RANSAC program...So it turned out that in order to run RANSAC I need to use MatLab and I had to switch data from one computer to another. But it doesn't matter much what I'm going to use as long as it works and I have graphs. So after Paul left I went back upstairs to finish playing with my power point.
Chris and Adrian proceeded to fight with PVC tubes in which they broke one. So today was a good day back but unfortunately Dr. Robinson was not in today but I did get a very informative email from him. Another day!
